Comprising 80% Chardonnay, the Lamiable 2009 Brut Cuvee Heliades (from a bottle disgorged this April) is relatively delicate and spare compared with their other two cuvees tasted alongside. Crabapple, lemon, and apricot are joined by a faintly radish-like musky bite; chew of apple skin; as well as a suffusion of chalk, all collaborating for a finish of cheek-pinching saliva-inducement and invigoration. This memorably distinct bottling might well respond positively to another year in bottle. Jean-Pierre and daughter Ophelie Lamiable bottle at least half a dozen cuvees, of which I sampled only three, not including a current rendition of the site-specific Blanc de Noirs Les Meslaines for which they are perhaps best-known.
