Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona is an estate in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Tuscany, known for its Brunello di Montalcino wines. These have won various awards, including a top ten placement for the 2007 Annata in the the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines for 2012. The estate produces three different Brunellos. The Pianrosso cuvée is sourced from the 11.7-hectare (29-acre) vineyard of the same name, and is fermented in stainless steel and glass-lined concrete vats before being aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro Riserva comes from the same vineyard, but spends longer in oak and bottle before release. It is only produced in exceptional vintages. Ciacchi Piccolomini's 'standard' Annata wine is sourced from the estate's Brunello vineyards and is aged in barrel for 24 months. The portfolio also includes a Rosso di Montalcino, the IGT Toscana Fabius Syrah, and Ateo, a Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot, all of which are made from Montalcino fruit. As well as its two Montalcino cellars – the 17th century Palazzo where the most valuable wines are aged, and Molinello, the estate headquarters and principal winery – Ciacci Piccolomini also owns the S. Stefano cellar and vineyard in Grosseto on the Tuscan coast, which produces a Montecucco Sangiovese. The range is completed by the Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona IGT Toscana, based on Sangiovese.
