He graduated in viticulture and oenology in 1989 travelling the world as a flying winemaker in Australia, Texas, Chile, and in Italy where he has worked since 1996 in partnership with the Count Brandino Brandolini d'Adda* in Vistorta near Venezia (Friuli). The Tokaj adventure begins in 1991. He was the first French man to settle in the region, just after the political changes and prior the start of the privatization of the vineyards. During 15 years he worked as a consultant and followed the evolution of the Tokaj styles for different companies. These multiple experiences brought him to create his own production of Tokaj great sweet wines, having in mind the work of the big châteaux in Bordeaux. It took me ten years to express in Tokaj what I had in mind. We cultivate 5 hectares of vines in the Grand Cru Hatari, in the district of Olaszliszka. This vineyard is south orientated on the Zempleni slopes. The slope is 30 to 40 % incline. Those vines in pole allow to harvest nice and mature grapes and to make a very rich wine. We also cultivate around 3 hectares on the slopes of the Tokaj mountain. The Aszù berries are here very rich and complex with a huge fruity expression. And this every single year. Since 1991, Samuel has been covering the vineyard of Tokaj. This knowledge of the terroirs and the people encouraged him to create partnerships with winegrowers. The Aszù berries are bought on the vines. Like in the Champagne region, the complexity of the wines we produce comes from the multiple growths and the different styles of grapes and terroirs.
