A barrel sample of the 2009 Cenit was even more striking. Opulent, powerful yet elegant, and impeccably balanced, this superb offering from a great vintage will raise the bar to unparalleled heights for this region. The importer also presented the entire series of Cenits dating back to the first vintage in 2003 (all of which have been previously reviewed in this journal). Suffice it to say that they are all showing well and continuing to evolve.

In this firm red, espresso and dark chocolate notes frame a core of black cherry, accented by licorice, baking spice and toasty notes. The polished texture is supported by muscular tannins and balsamic acidity. Drink now through 2021. 50 cases imported.

From the Zamora region, this Tempranillo is dark, well oaked and dense. The nose is full of black cherry and charred oak that gives off a shoe polish scent. The palate is round and smooth, with oak-dominated black fruit and minty, spicy flavors. A modern, meaty wine by any measure. Drink now through 2020.
